Iwenhe Nhenhe? (What’s This?) is an Arrernte children's book, written and illustrated by First Nations educators at Ampe-kenhe Ahelhe (Children's Ground Central Australia).
This multi-purpose Early Years learning resource is designed for teaching Arrernte children about distance, like how far or how close something is. At the same time children can practice the hand signals that are used to indicate distance while also learning the language names for local native animals. Use of repetition in books for little children helps to increase opportunities for learning new words and practicing their use, increases confidence, adds rhythm, aids memory and helps strengthen neural pathways in the brain that assist learning.
