Children’s Ground condemns in the strongest terms the anti-immigration rallies and violence against First Peoples that occurred on 31 August 2025. There is no place for disrespect, violence and hatred on our lands.
We want to recognise the good will of the majority of Australians. These gatherings are the voices of a minority. Fuelled by architects of division, spreading white supremacist rhetoric and inflaming racial hatred. They were an offence to First Peoples and to the many who have made Australia home from all corners of the world.
Our Elders and culture remind us that all who are born of this country, and who live on this country, are connected by the responsibility to care for it. When hatred and segregation rise, they wound the spirit of Country.
We are deeply distressed by the desecration of Camp Sovereignty and the fear and hatred enacted on our brothers and sisters. Camp Sovereignty is a living ceremony, an enduring reminder that Sovereignty was never ceded. Re-established on 26 January 2024 at Kings Domain, a burial ground sacred to many Nations, it signifies an unbroken connection to Country and ongoing resistance to colonisation. Those who stormed this sacred place with violence have caused deep harm.
The hatred on our streets echoes the same disregard for life we continue to witness in our systems of authority. In Western Australia, reports of a young man dying in custody after his calls for help were ignored, and a police officer responding to his death with laughter, reveal a level of cruelty that is impossible to fathom. The violence inflicted by those charged to protect continues to cause unbearable loss for our people.
For over 65,000 years, First Nations people have lived in harmony with this land, guided by protocols of care, kinship and responsibility.
Our leadership is rooted not in violence, but in ceremony, knowledge and Country, passed through generations with dignity, humility and respect.
To our broader Australian community, we say: racism, violence and hatred have no place here. To political leaders, we call on you to lead, to speak out, to create safety and to uphold inclusion and respect.
To young people, families and communities living with fear, know you are not alone. We continue to live with strength, respect, generosity and care. Together we will resist this upheaval of hate.
We stand with all those who promote justice, inclusion and dignity.

We stand together as First Peoples. We stand with migrants who seek safety, respect and belonging on these shores. In the steps of our Ancestors, as we hold the deep responsibility of our ancestral lands, we recognise the rights to freedom and peace of all peoples.
