Health in the Hands of the People: Children's Ground Family Health and Wellbeing Framework
Health in the Hands of the People is the articulation of Children's Ground's Family Health & Wellbeing Framework. It forms a core part of our integrated approach to break the cycle of disadvantage in First Nations communities and enable a new generation of children to enjoy lives of equity and opportunity.
The framework is the cumulative outcome of many years’ work by grassroots community leaders, applied and refined through hands-on application in community by Children’s Ground, backed by the commitment of our family of financial supporters.
The compilation and launch of the framework was supported by Johnson & Johnson as part of their commitment to close the gap in health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians.
"Health in the Hands of the People is a framework for health promotion that embraces First Culture", Children’s Ground co-founder and CEO, Jane Vadiveloo, said at the launch on July 24.
“The framework is built from community-owned knowledge. In First Nations cultures, health is always interconnected with all aspects of wellbeing", Jane said.
“The devastating health of First Nations people in this nation we know are due to the cumulative effects of the social cultural and economic determinants of health."
“In this work, Children’s Ground integrates a First Nations wellbeing knowledge system with the western health approach. We anticipate that by applying this in a whole-of-community way, that health outcomes – and indicators of wellbeing in general – will be improved in the long term.”
